Phnom Penh: The candidate for the future Prime Minister of the People's Party, Mr. Hun Manet, was shocked by Sam Rainsy, who did not clearly understand the mandate of the ASEAN chair, and wrote a post that led some Cambodians and foreigners to think even more wrongly.

Mr. Hun Manet took to his own Facebook post on the night of December 16, 2022 about Mr. Sam Rainsy's shameless criticism of PM for cheating as the ASEAN chairmanship. That Sam Rainsy himself does not clearly understand the mandate of the ASEAN chair.

"Sam Rainsy's message is tantamount to his criticism of the French president, as well as the leaders of the European Union and other ASEAN heads of state, that they do not fully understand the mandate of the ASEAN chair," Hun Manet wrote.

Mr. Hun Manet's remarks now come after Mr. Sam Rainsy wrote on his Facebook page on December 13, 2022: " Hun Sen secretly used his name as the chair of ASEAN to officially receive French President Emmanuel Macron on December 13, 2022. In fact, Indonesian President Joko Widodo is the current chair of ASEAN."

Mr. Hun Manet added that he had read Sam Rainsy's message many times and was still overwhelmed that Sam Rainsy could write such a message and post it publicly in Khmer and English for foreigners to read.

Article 31 of the ASEAN Charter on the ASEAN Chairmanship states: For the whole year, ASEAN has to have a single chair. ”

Kong Phok, spokesman for the 2022 ASEAN Summit and former Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, responded to EAC News' questions by stating: "The ASEAN chairmanship runs from 1 January to 31 December at 11 and 59 pm nights every year. ”

Sam Rainsy's remarks not only reflected his poor knowledge of ASEAN, but also insulted French President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Union.

It is unfortunate that people are born over the age of 70 and even want to lead the state, but do not know how to lead ASEAN and the rotation of the ASEAN chair from year to year.
